MIGHT signs MoU with PRI

06 October 2012

The Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), an agency under the Prime Minister’s Department, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 5th October 2012 with the Performance Review Institute (PRI), which administers the Nadcap program on behalf of the aerospace industry, marking another milestone in efforts to advance the competencies and competitiveness of the Malaysian aerospace industry in the global market.

MIGHT’s initiative is a strategic move in promoting supply chain enhancement in Malaysia by providing local access to global standards in aerospace manufacturing.

“The signing of this MoU is a clear commitment from the Government to develop the Malaysian aerospace industry as a key player in the global market. With a well-established maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) in place, Malaysia is now expanding its efforts into the potentially lucrative aerostructure manufacturing. In 2011 alone, Malaysia netted approximately RM1.2 billion turnover in aerostructure manufacturing, a 100% growth from 2009,” said the President and CEO of MIGHT, En Mohd Yusoff Sulaiman.

“There is a viable, vibrant and a huge market potential for Malaysian industry players to capture in aerostructure manufacturing. To be competitive, Malaysian suppliers need to maintain global standards, whereby Nadcap certification is key,” he added. Malaysia currently have a number of tier two local industry players in aerospace manufacturing including CTRM, ACM, UPECA and SMEA.
